IMDA Association News: October/November 2024

IMDA to Celebrate 20 Years in 2025

Incorporated in 2005, the IMDA is gearing up to celebrate a milestone anniversary – 20 years as an association serving those involved in in-mold labeling, in-mold decorating and in-mold electronics!

If your company isn’t already a member of our association, let me tell you why you should join:

1. Process Expertise and Collective Knowledge
This is where association membership excels. Membership in the IMDA implies a level of expertise that not everyone can provide, and our members turn to each other again and again when they need machinery or a label or a film. When the IML or IMD process isn’t quite right or a customer needs additional capacity, our members trust each other to come up with a solution.

2. Sales Lead Generation
In 2024, the IMDA exhibited at NPE2024, Labelexpo Americas and PACK EXPO International. The association hosted a very successful Sustainability Breakfast at PACK EXPO International, as well as co-hosted the Plastic Product Decorating Summit in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Additional outreach was done through online webinars and application articles in Plastics Decorating magazine. These efforts generate sales leads, and the IMDA points to our members as the experts in in-mold processes, expanding your company’s profile and sales outreach.

3. Group Purchasing Power
We’re all keeping an eye on the bottom line these days, but IMDA membership is an easy decision when companies can save more – much more – than their annual membership fee with discount programs for shipping and supplies. IMDA members save on Grainger purchases with discounts of up to 20% on commonly purchased MRO supplies at US locations. Shipping discounts of up to 50% are available through FedEx, and reduced freight shipping also can be found through carriers like YRC, TForce, Saia and others.

Join the association for molders, printers, material suppliers and equipment manufacturers who are committed to the development and growth of in-mold products, technologies and markets. Fill out the membership application at www.imdassociation.com and see for yourself the benefits of working with IMDA.

IMDA Welcomes New Members
The In-Mold Decorating Association is pleased to welcome three new members to the organization dedicated to advancing IML, IMD and IME technologies.

Curbell Plastics, Inc.
Curbell Plastics, Inc. is one of America’s premier suppliers of plastic sheets, rods, tubes, films, tapes, adhesives, sealants and prototyping materials. In business since 1942, the Curbell’s film offerings for IML and IMD include thermoplastic polycarbonate and polycarbonate blends that are easy to diecut and have excellent ink adhesion. With locations across the US, the company offers custom fabrication, exceptional service and next-day delivery of high-quality plastics nationwide.

Engineered Molding Solutions
Since 1996, Engineered Molding Solutions has consistently produced top-quality injection molded products for its customers in industries such as aerosol caps and closures, beauty caps and closures, electronics, medical and safety. The family-owned custom injection molding company is located in McHenry, Illinois, just 45 minutes from Chicago O’Hare airport. Its 28,000-square-foot facility is comprised of the latest injection molding machines, ranging from 88 tons to 425 tons; secondary finishing operations; and a staff of highly knowledgeable and talented people.

UVitec Printing Ink, Inc.
In 1980, UVitec began as an idea to build a company exclusively dedicated to serving the UV-curable ink and coating market. Now a leader in the UV- and UV LED-curable ink, coating and adhesive market, as well as a nationally recognized resource for the printing and converting industries, UVitec is proud of the reputation it has built over four decades. UVitec is one of the few remaining domestic, privately owned UV- and UV LED-curable ink and coating manufacturers in the US.

Smyth Companies
Henry Martin Smyth founded Smyth Printing in 1877 in the frontier town of St. Paul, Minnesota. Originally established to help local businesses with their commercial printing needs, the company eventually turned its focus to the production of labels for consumer product goods packaging. Smyth maintains two distinct types of production facilities: Roll-fed and Sheet-fed. The sheet-fed operations in Bedford, Virginia, and Austin, Minnesota, utilize lithographic presses to produce glue-applied cut and stack labels, as well as labels for in-mold application.

Krevera, Inc.
Krevera Inc.’s data-driven solutions are specifically tailored for plastic injection molders, using artificial intelligence to help transform their operations. With Krevera, molders easily can control their processes through vision inspection systems designed to cut down on labor, waste and maintenance costs. The inspection system identifies defect type, size, location and severity, while also offering live, adjustable defect tolerances and enabling robust changes in lighting, camera placement and product orientation.

IMDA to Exhibit at PTXPO in March 2025
