From the Managing Director
The IMDA returned to in-person events this fall – first, by hosting the IMDA Symposium in September and then by exhibiting at PACK EXPO Las Vegas. Attendees at both events were engaged and excited to be among industry peers again! The Symposium – held in conjunction with SPE’s Decorating & Coatings Division TopCon – welcomed more than 90 attendees, and the IMDA booth at PACK EXPO saw a steady stream of visits from brand owners, plastics molding companies, label printers and more.
Did you know that IMDA members are invited to spend time in the IMDA booth at events where we exhibit? At PACK EXPO, our members chose two-hour shifts, which then were publicized to potential visitors by the IMDA. It’s a win for the association and for those who take advantage of the opportunity – the IMDA benefits by having experts in IML, IMD and IME in our booth for visitors who have questions, and the members can share their knowledge and unique company perspective with the prospects who need their services. The 2022 exhibit schedule is under development, but count on the IMDA presence at PACK EXPO International next year.
Big things are happening at the IMDA. If you aren’t a member yet, call me or send an email. Interest in in-mold technologies is growing, and so are we!

2021 IMDA Awards Competition Winners Honored at Symposium
The winners of the 2021 IMDA Awards Competition were recognized at the IMDA Symposium, held in Edina (Minneapolis), Minnesota, in September. Winners of the competition were announced with a Video Reveal in July, and the top entries in each category were displayed for all attendees of the IMDA Symposium / SPE Decorating & Coatings Division TopCon. The Symposium provided the first in-person opportunity for association members to gather in nearly two years. The joint conferences provided a broad selection of experts in all fields of plastics decorating, assembly and in-mold decorating/labeling, with sessions led by experts in vision inspection systems, functional inks for in-mold electronics, anti-fingerprint and scratch-resistant coatings, the recyclability of decorated plastics, automation and robotics, and nearly 20 other topics.
See a summary of the event on page 22 and make plans now to attend the 2022 IMDA Symposium, tentatively scheduled for late September in the Detroit, Michigan, area.
