From the Editor: June 2020 ENews

Hello, everyone! I hope you’re enjoying this gorgeous June day as we start to move toward something that looks like normal after a few crazy months. It’s a weird balancing act – moving back into full production while trying to abide by the guidelines set forth by our states for a safe return to work. And it’s not just work – I’m headed to the softball fields this weekend with my youngest daughter for our first tournament of the year. I can’t quite picture what “social distancing” will look like at the ball fields, but I guess we’ll figure it out as we go along.

Tradeshows and conferences in the industry are having the same dilemma. Cancellations have been the norm, but our friends at PRINTING United are moving forward with plans for the event, happening in October in Atlanta. In fact, there’s a conference call coming up for those of us expected to exhibit to discuss the precautions and modifications that are being made to make the event a safe way for those of us involved in plastics decorating to see new technologies and visit with old friends. A lot of questions remain about COVID-19, but I’m sure we can all agree that it would feel pretty good to see one of the major events in our industry move forward.

In the meantime, this email provides a few resources for those looking to stay up on the latest news. First, many of you have asked about using ultraviolet disinfection technology to reduce the danger of COVID-19 spread in your facilities, and the International Ultraviolet Association has launched a section on its website to help answer some of your questions. Printing United has provided an update on the October show, and Scott Sabreen will be offering a free webinar on Surface Pretreatment later this month. The newest issue of Plastics Decorating has arrived on your desk, so you’ll also find a link to some of those stories – including an article on digital heat transfer solutions.

As we get back to normal, if those of us at Plastics Decorating can do anything for you, let us know. If there’s information you’re looking for or a supplier connection you want to make, we are happy to help. Stay safe and be well.
